Greeting Friends,

I have not written an update for several months.   Since I last wrote, I have spent five weeks (mostly in June) in Berlin and one week visiting  the Reformation sites of Martin Luther.  This trip to Germany I had the pleasure of serving as co-leader, teacher and translator, for a group mostly from Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Clifton Park, NY.   I am arranging with my webmaster to get some pictures of our time in Germany.  Keep your eye open to my web site and take a look at these digital pictures.

Dear Friends,

I think you will agree with me that my webmaster, Dave Adikes, has done a very skillful job developing my website. He is a fellow Rotarian who has learned the value of living by the Rotary motto “Service Above Self.” He made the offer to set up a website for me gratus and I jumped at that oppportunity. Since the creation of my websidte, I have found the wonderful plus in being able to communicate with a wider public through the internet.

The original motivation for a website was to make my doctoral dissertation available to chaplains at other hospitals. Not every medical center has a medical staff that has learned how to use pastoral care to the fullest and when to make a referral to a chaplain. The positive experiences that the medical staff has with well-trained hospital chaplains can go a long ways to enhance the ministry of pastoral care. This ministry is meant not only for the patients, but also for the patient’s supportive family and often times it is needed by the overworked nurses in caring for their patients. In the many difficult situations faced in a medical center, the chapain can provide spiritual and emotional support, a listening ear to the to the patients, parents/family, and the medical staff assisting them at a time of greatest spiritual need.
